This area and it's people

It's in my opinion that the best people in the world live here, if your the right kind. If you are white, protestant, conservative, and hide what you do pretty well your viewed as a pretty good person. If you live in the public eye, such as having a public job what you do is known by everyone, teachers for instance are held to a standard I'm not sure anyone could uphold in this area. After coming back from Miami I thought about this area, how much I love it and how at the same time I realize that Southwest VA is today what it's always going to be. Small towns with little money and no industry. On the streets of South Beach out in public for everyone to see is nudity, drugs (literally saw a guy hitting a bong on the street), alcohol, and pretty much everything else under the sun. Is this good? No, I dont think so but at the same time it's amazing how people are viewed there as compared to here. People judge each other like crazy here, and are honestly hipocrits in most cases. Religon is a great thing, I myself have been saved and fully believe in God and Jesus Christ. At the same time, religon holds back communites and causes problems. Every single person this board has something in their past I'm sure they want to hide, yet people in our area criticize others, why? I think it's in order to make themsevles feel better and their way is the right way regardless of others views or beliefs. Could you imagine being a minority in this area? I couldn't, it's 2007 and there is still racism in this area, sad but true. I dont know, sometimes when I have a long time to think as I did today I feel ashamed of this area, how we judge and prevent growth. I'm reminded by an alcohol vote in Big Stone a while back and how religous groups turned out in huge numbers to try to vote down liqour by the drink in our town. I respect those who went out and voted against it, at least they got out and voted. At the same time, if somebody wanted to buy liqour or drink it all they have to do is drive down beside the post office and buy it. The argument of young people seeing it came up, but how long can you live in isloation? The PV people on this board probably know hundreds of stories on me, of times when I was in the wrong when I did something I shouldn't have done but they dont bring those up just as you dont see me on here talking about them. I know them, their my friends, I respect my friends, they respect me and at the end of the day if I'm in trouble Biggin and PHD will be the first two people I call. We dont judge each other for what we are, were friends and always will be. I guess all I'm really trying to say is, respect other people their beliefs opinions and life. Your not so perfect yourself and when it's all said and done no man can judge me or anyone, only God can do that.

I'm not going to post on anymore on the non-sports forum, discussing personal accomplishments and political views is not worth defending myself and my friends for, well not hear anyway. I plan on living here the rest of my life, I'd hate for something I said on the LPD Sports Forum when I was 19 years old prevented me from getting a job down the line in a public eye.

In closing, I hope we can all get along and discuss sports in a tame manner. That is what this placed was designed for to begin with. We are losing great posters everday, anybody who cant see that is just not looking. DaneCook, Mega, Nola, OAR, Mox,Spuds Jack, MikMO (anybody know what happened to him) and others have left this place and those are some of the most informative posters that this board has seen. Sometimes this place reminds me of NASCAR, over extends itself and trys to please everyone while upseting it's base trying to regain what it once had.

If everyone would respect others opinions and thoughts and disagree with them constructively then the board would be a better place but everyone takes everything so personally now and gets mad at the least little comment.

(Mostly stupid stuff [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]) But at the end of the day it`s all forgotten and put aside. Just wish this forum could do more of the same. Respect for each others opinions should be atop everyones goals on this forum. Treat someone as you would want to be treated. I agree 100%. Honestly, we keep from having too many of the new people come on and stay because someone new shows up and even if they have a valid point, some like to do the hazeing (so to speak).

I fully expect long time people to disappear, some reappear over time. Some people are big into discussions when their kids are in sports, but when they get out, they lose some interest, work schedules change, etc.

I think the ability to agree to disagree is lost. Instead it turns into 'you suck', 'you piece of aA#@$@$#@', etc.

I can sit and argue most things all day, sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong, and sometimes its a mix of the two (and that is all of us). Unless someone just posts scores, or cold hard numbers, like the score was 6-2, then they are subject to opinion and/or bias. If I call a game a good called game, and someone from another place calls the same game a bad called game, doesn't mean either of us is right or the other is wrong, its probably close to the middle. Its fine to say IMHO or such that you're wrong, but too many want to convert others to their way of thinking.

First off, I have children who go to school...and I definately hold teachers to a higher standard because these are MY children they are teaching. I want my kids to have the best possible education. Its not like I just drop them off to some nobody, I'm PAYING these people to teach my children. If you paid a carpenter to build you a house, I'm sure you wouldn't just let him get away with unsquare walls. You would want perfection for your money, or as close as possible.

True Christians stand up against things that are wrong in this world regarless of whats "politically correct". Standing back and watching the druggies, criminals, etc..is whats wrong, not the other way around.

Lastly, I'd just like to say that all this buttkissing everyone seems to want each other to do is ludacris. This is a forum. The entire point of the forum is DEBATE. That means people will have different opinions and argue over those opinions. If you cant deal with it, then maybe you shouldnt be here in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I think threatening someone personally is wrong. Some of you people just take things to serious on here.
